NEW JLARC Summer Camp: Report 2024
This summer, we introduced Summer Camps for both Development Squad and Race Squad, held over two separate weeks, based on differing experience levels with a splash of all things rowing related.
Where the Dev Squad Camp was club based in Lymington, the Race Squad travelled further afield.
Both weeks gave rowers experience in a variety of
Team Games
Pilates for Rowers (Mindful Movement with ex Rower, Emma)
Strength and Conditioning (with Duncan and Yo@CrossFit Gym),
Ocean Boat Taster sessions on Jasmine; the Rannoch R45 heading across the Atlantic this winter with Ebb and Flow. The rowers also watched Losing Sight of Shore; an epic trip across 9000 miles of the Pacific Ocean.
SWIFT Adventure Where Dev. Squad rowed 14km to Newtown Creek return and the Race Squad clocked up 72.3km over 24 hours; the Monster of the Loch Ladies Masters training Crew delivered the SWIFT to the JLARC rowers at Durley Chine in 31.9km then they rowed it into Poole Harbour in 13.3km -Knoll Beach-Swanage Bay-Knoll Beach in 16km and then all the way back to Lymington in relay formation in 43km with a camp out at Burnbake, whilst in Studland.
Understanding ADHD Race Squad met with Mel Simms (Life Coach @AHDH Hummingbird) for a fun and open chat about understanding Neurodivergents.
Sea Water Baths Dev Squad enjoyed a session at the Sea water baths as it was too windy to go afloat (and they were shattered and one man down for the Quad).
1x, 2x and Beach Sprint Where Dev Squad were introduced to C1x skills in our lagoon, the Race Squad (plus a few extras), were pit through their paces at the Beach Sprint Academy at Knoll Beach (with pathway coach Lucy Hart and GB athlete, Sol) in C1x, C2x.
Passage Planning/ Risk Assessments Both squads covered basic navigation, tide awareness, first aid and some boat maintenance for their trips.
