Itchen Junior Regatta

Fabulous performances from all JLARC scullers who raced today in windy & increasingly choppy conditions at the annual Itchen Junior Regatta, (normally held in September conditions).

Racing in river singles, doubles & quads the short, sprint style course provided what was, for many, their first ‘small boats’ race.

Grit & determination abounded, nerves & cold were overcome, river Small boat experience gained.

“We had exceptional teamwork from all from dawn to dusk and all scullers put in strong performances & we had no swimmers, which was remarkable given the conditions”.

Medal winners were:

  • (Top left) Angus & Sol, who rowed a very strong race as a scratch crew to win the J16 2x.

  • (Mid Right) Maisie & Crista, who stormed to victory with a very convincing row in the WJ16 2x

  • (Bottom left) Sol & George, who just pipped Izaac & Patrick to the post in a nail-biting, all-Lymington J14 2x Boys' final,

Gutsy performances too from Izzy & Freya in their first ever 1x & 2x races and Imogen in her first ever (R4x+) race.

Well done to all our junior athletes today: Izzy, Freya, Patrick, Sol, Izaac, George, Crista, Maisie, Amelia, Imogen, Seb, Callan and Angus, thank you to the fabulous team of parents for all the help & support and to Itchen Rowing Club for organising another brilliant event!
